Looking to boost your green credentials? You’ll love that our products incorporate fully recycled fibres in the lining papers, making them a great choice for environmentally friendly construction projects.

Plasterboard thickness is a consideration in your construction task. Standard ceilings are typically 9.5mm to 12.5mm thick while walls tend to be 12.5mm to 15mm. A good alternative to traditional plastering, plasterboard provides the ideal choice for lining existing spaces or constructing new partitions within an existing one. It’s an easy process to fix plasterboard to a wall, then apply skimming plaster for a smooth finish. Some builders prefer the method of taping and jointing with plasterboard tape, negating the need for plaster entirely.

No matter what type of plasterboard you select, each provides a degree of insulation. However, some variants come with added benefits. Check our moisture-resistant plaster boards, acoustic insulated plasterboards and plaster boards for ceilings, all providing specialised features according to your needs.

Plasterboard FAQs

What is the difference between plasterboard and drywall?

The two terms are interchangeable and refer to the same product, but their usage is determined by location.

Can you paint straight onto plasterboard?

You can paint straight onto plasterboard by first covering the joints and any holes created by your fixings.

Do you need to plaster over plasterboard?

It is not necessary to plaster over your plasterboard, but skimming it with a thin coat of plaster will often result in a superior finish.

Can you put plasterboard directly on wall?

It is not recommended to attach plaster boards directly onto masonry walls. Instead, you should create a cavity either by using a timber frame or a layer of adhesive.

Should I plasterboard ceiling or walls first?

You should always work from top to bottom, so ceilings first then walls.

Can you put plasterboard on the wrong way?

When installing Gyproc plasterboards, make sure that the coloured paper face is facing outwards. This side is suitable for plastering or direct decoration. The reverse side, which has printed board details, should be installed facing inwards. This side is not suitable for receiving a plaster finish.
